Are you a curly-haired gal tired of dealing with frizz and lackluster curls? Don't worry, we've got you covered! As a fellow curly girl, I know the struggle of keeping our beautiful curls looking their best. But fear not, because I'm here to share my top must-know tips for keeping your curls healthy and bouncy!
-
Moisture is key: Curly hair tends to be on the drier side, which can lead to frizz and lackluster curls. That's why it's important to keep your hair moisturized. Use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, and consider using a leave-in conditioner or hair oil to give your hair an extra boost of hydration. Checkout the Actyva Disciplina Range here
- Treatments: Not all treatments are created equally, especially when it comes to curls. Through my experience in the salon, I would highly recommend the in salon Olaplex treatment to help repair and replace the all important sulphide bonds within each hair strand. I have seen curls transformed from stretched and frizzy to bouncy and shiny
-
Ditch the brush: If you're still using a brush on your curls, it's time to stop! Brushes can disrupt your curls and cause frizz. Instead, use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers(my preference) to detangle your hair, but only when conditioning. This will help to keep your curls intact and bouncy.
-
Don't over-wash: Curly hair doesn't need to be washed every day. In fact, over-washing can strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving it dry and frizzy. Try washing your hair every two to three days, and use a dry shampoo on the days in between to keep your hair looking fresh.
- Styling products are your best friend: Curls need support and lots of it. One of the biggest mistakes people make when trying to manage their curls, is not using enough styling product. I use at least twice as much product when leaving my hair curly (which is most of the time, as I'm much too lazy 😆) compared to smoothing it out. My favourite combo is Kemon Manya Hi Density Control combined with Actyva Bellessere Oil. Top Tip: use twice as much as you think you should
-
Protect your curls: Heat styling tools are damaging to curly hair, so it's important to protect your curls from the heat. If you must use a blow dryer or flat iron, use a heat protectant spray to minimize damage. Check out our favourites Actyva Bellessere Heat Protection and Moroccanoil Perfect Defense And don't forget to wear a hat or scarf when you're out in the sun to protect your curls from UV damage.
-
Embrace your natural curls: Finally, the most important tip of all and my favourite – embrace your natural curls! Don't try to fight your curls by straightening or chemically treating your hair. Embrace your natural texture and learn to work with your curls. There are so many amazing curly hair products and techniques out there that can help you make the most of your gorgeous curls.
Yes, curly hair can be a challenge to maintain, but it's definitely worth it when you see those bouncy, healthy curls in the mirror. By following these tips, you'll be well on your way to having the best curls of your life. So go forth, curly girls, and rock those gorgeous curls with confidence and attitude!
